We'd hardly had the chance to absorb news that the University of Minnesota men's basketball team was a hotbed of academic fraud when news came that Minnesota Timberwolves execs had inked an under-the-table deal to retain the services of Joe Smith, salary cap be damned. Thus did our fair state achieve the elite status of World's Most Corrupt Basketball Venue. (In case there is any doubt, as this item goes to press it seems the U women's basketball program has been seeking to bolster our stature.)
