Comments (0) BEST HIGH SCHOOL BAND - 2001

Linus

In a deflated, post-Foxfire all-ages music scene dominated by bands that take their cues from the likes of Green Day and Papa Roach, the Arts High School's Linus stay true to the indie-rock school in a way that appeals to old-timers and the kids alike. With a surprisingly polished EP recorded in the Arts High School's own studio shortly after the band's formation last spring, Linus has garnered an intimate and devoted following while playing shows at Eclipse Records and Bon Appétit, commendable venues that continue to cater to underage concertgoers. At their best, Linus serve up a blend of impressive guitar work reminiscent of Modest Mouse, tight rhythms, and subtly self-conscious melodic vocals that accentuate some charmingly puerile lyrics. The four members of Linus plan to remain together after graduation and hope to release a full-length this summer. If a year of experience has added anything to their already promising sound, the recording should be a gem.
