Black Forest Inn
It's not summer for some of us until this Minneapolis institution has opened its brick-paved patio, started the water circulating in the diminutive fountain, and fertilized the vines that form its living canopy. The menu always features light summer specials, but we love the German fare--homemade spaetzle and red cabbage, mmmm--enough to eat it no matter what the season. For a true Munich-beer-garden experience, order a Weissbier with a slice of lemon: Crisp, yeasty, and bitter in a most likable way, it has the power of instantly lifting any heavy feelings, especially those associated with devouring a full platter of the addictive onion rings. Prost!
