BEST PLACE TO THROW A POT - 2000
Is there a frustrated ceramist inside you aching to construct a slender porcelain vase, a sturdy mug, a matching set of dinnerware? Fired Up's spacious yet homey 4,000-square-foot loft is the perfect place to unleash your clay fantasies without gouging your pocket. Membership prices start at $80 a month (it costs more if you want additional storage space or a private studio); all members have 24-hour access to the facilities, which include wedging tables, a slab roller, an extruder, and ten electric wheels. You also get free use of more than two dozen different glazes procured and maintained by the affable staff, plus free bisque firing. (Final firing costs $12 per cubic foot.) A small gallery has recently been added to allow members to display their wares for sale. All told, there's no better place to throw in the Twin Cities.
