A few caveats before we begin. With this recommendation, we assume that you, gentle reader: 1) work third shift; 2) are suffering terrible-but-temporary emotional storms following a breakup; 3) have made it your personal mission to utter--once--the phrase "Beer: It's not just for breakfast" with conviction; 4) are a college student; 5) used to be a college student before enrolling at the University of Anheuser-Busch; or 6) have not yet been to sleep. Further, if your favorite 8:00 a.m. drinking spots to date have been: 1) your bedroom (after all, you keep the bottles in your hamper); or 2) your kitchen (provided your roommates aren't awake) then you--that most oxymoronic of types, the deeply motivated alcoholic--are better advised to sleep in. That said, not only is the Poodle Club one of the few bars in town open before 8:00 a.m., but it is also a place where you can go for a drink at said hour without feeling the need to sneak in. Breakfast is the ostensible order of the day--nice big cheap plates of eggs and hash for less than three bucks. And should you want, you know, one of the mimosas or a bloody mary listed discreetly in the upper-right-hand corner of the breakfast menu (and what motivated alcoholic would tolerate quite so much mixer?), they're just $2.40.
