Comments (0) BEST PLACE TO CAMP - 2000

If you like camping trips that don't require hours of driving but manage to provide the feel of the great outdoors, have we got a park for you! In a less than an hour, you can be sitting outside your tent roasting marshmallows, glimpsing the occasional deer and shooing away the frequent raccoon. Hikers can trek 35-plus miles of trails, while canoe enthusiasts can avail themselves of the park's 18 miles of St. Croix River waterway (canoe camping is available). There's also horseback riding and, in winter, cross-country skiing. At night, if you're not up to roughing it, a pair of camping cabins are equipped with a minimal amount of furniture, and for the true weenie there's a guest house with furnished rooms and a fireplace. The park is open year-round: Winter campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis; to make a reservation for the summer months, call (612) 922-9000.
