Comments (0) BEST SONG ABOUT A LOCAL INSTITUTION - 1999

Last time the Austin, Texas-based Watson was in town, he played Lee's Liquor Lounge, where he was greeted as warmly as any regular. Local Watson fans love his old-school-styled country music and Watson loves 'em right back. He opened his set with "Louie's Lee's Liquor Lounge," his affectionate ode immortalizing Minneapolis's greatest reconstituted honky-tonk and its beloved proprietor, Louie Sirian. For good measure, Watson played it a second time near the close of his set. Key lyric: "He bought it from a man named Lee but didn't change the sign/Louie thinks what really counts is what you got inside." Damn straight. The song is still unreleased, but Watson told the faithful that he planned to record the tune for his next record.
