BEST SHAMELESS SPORTS-MERCHANDISING PLOY Minneapolis 1999 -

This Best Buy exclusive hit the racks in mid-December, when it still seemed that the home team Just Might Go All the Way. It's a compilation of ten musical PA-system thumpers ranging from the Gap Band's "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" and the Village People's "Y.M.C.A." to Big Country's "In a Big Country" and the Scorpions' "Rock You Like a Hurricane" to play-by-play highlights (e.g., "Down Go the Pack") and the booster anthem "Purple Pride (Go Vikes)," complete with shout-outs to Red McCombs. Had things turned out differently, PP may have popped up at future flea markets as a valuable souvenir of a championship season. As it is, the CD is destined to pass into obscurity as a bizarre piece of officially licensed NFL product from the Year That Wasn't. Let's just hope they never assay a Volume 2.
