Comments (0) BEST OLD BAND - 1999

The Flamin' Oh's, the Trashmen, the Litter, and a cruise ship full of other aging rockers have made impressive and high-profile returns to the Twin Cities music scene after long absences. But Safety Last, in their unassuming way, are the most graceful recent revivers of their own ghost, playing Carl Perkins and Hank Ballard standards with uncommon familiarity and ease. Having parted ways in the early '80s after a couple of years together, bass player Rusty Jones and guitarist Tim Mauseth now lock into vocal harmony like two lost brothers, reunited. Together they make a unique brand of tight rockabilly, free of blue suede genre-trappings and with plenty of hot-old-country heart.
