Comments (0) BEST NEW BAND - 1999

A gaggle of indie-rocking tykes from Hopkins High, the Plastic Constellations are a garage-rock band that plays the most gentrified garage-rock ever--a messy, post-Pavement art-pop that tries to approximate their heroes' sonic pastiche the way the bands of yore used to try to approximate the Kingsmen's manly clamor. Of course, the Constellations being but young'uns, what comes out is as jumbled as it is inspired. Yet the band's fresh-faced approach and rambunctious stage show complements their ambitious noise, suggesting an innocence most Pavement clones could never cop to. With a little maturity (and some quality time with a thesaurus), the future of local indie rock could be theirs.
