BEST LOCAL LANDMARK - 1999
Ever wonder how it would feel to utter, in all seriousness, some classic but cliché line? You know, like "Stop the presses!" Or "Is there a doctor in the house?" Well, here's your chance. Head to the Mall of America, and locate Knott's Camp Snoopy. (That's a depressing moment in itself, but this is a mournful item. Bear with us.) There, amid the meshugaas the Simon Property Group brought us, is a commemorative home plate located precisely where the dish once sat at Metropolitan Stadium. The home plate where Killebrew crouched. And Oliva, and Allison, and Pasqual. Tracking it down may require some searching, but it can be done. Once you've found it, stand solemnly and speak the following sad words: "There used to be a ballpark here."
