Comments (0) BEST FARMERS MARKET - 1999

The St. Paul Farmers' Market has been supplying produce to this area for 148 years. For the nonhistorians among us, that would be ten years longer than this gopher-pocked patch of prairie has been a state. Every Saturday and Sunday morning from late April through October, 100-plus growers offer their finest, freshest fruits, vegetables, and potted plants--which, according to the market's rules, must be grown within a 50-mile radius of the Twin Cities--while strolling musicians provide festive atmosphere. Feeling carnivorous? The market also features farm-raised, USDA approved poultry, pork, beef, venison, and even ostrich, also supplied by local farmers. If you can't make it downtown on the weekend, you can still take advantage of the bounty by visiting any of the market's ten satellite locations, from Burnsville to Woodbury to Har Mar Mall. Call the hotline number listed above for days, hours, and locations, or, if you want proof they aren't stuck in the mid-1800s, go to their new Web site: stpaulfarmersmarket.com.
