Comments (0) BEST TOURIST TRAP - 1998

If we were apt to argue with God, we'd point out that absorbing 2.5 million square feet of retail is not necessarily something for a metropolitan area to be proud of. We'd complain that we'd like 18 square feet of affordable housing, not shopping, for every man, woman, and child. We'd gnash our teeth at the very idea of 16 million annual tourist visits to the Mall of America. We'd rail that the 12,000 mall employees are artificially pumping up the region's employment statistics. But we're not apt to argue with God. So let us be the first to congratulate Bloomington on creating the first and only Minnesota attraction that can lure planeloads of Germans, Brits, and Japanese to fly in, stay 24 hours, and leave fully satisfied with their trip to...which state was that again?
