BEST STEAK HOUSE ON A BUDGET Minneapolis 1998 -
Home of the $30 steak for $14.95 (cellophane-wrapped crackers are gratis). What the Cherokee lacks in steak-house chic--no towering mahogany booths, no glassed-in display case through which you must view your carnage before you eat it--they make up for in meat. That $14.95 will get you the "Steak of the Decade": a slow-aged, perfectly cooked charbroiled top sirloin. Plus a salad and a choice of potato (we like the cheese-saturated au gratin). Who says steak is trendy? At Casper's, steak never went anywhere that it needed revival. Is breathing trendy? Cocktails? Hook rugs? Melba toast? OK, don't answer that. Just come for the steak.
