Comments (0) BEST KARAOKE - 1998

Let's get one thing straight: All you ironic punks who like to get up and sing Donna Summer in falsetto to cover your embarrassment, to show off for your hipster friends, to mock the standards--you can rent your own damn karaoke machine and do it in your living room. That said, there's room for all varieties of karaoke kings and queens at the Poodle on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On one visit, we witnessed a 300-pound diva perform "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and the Little River Band's "Cool Change." The young and affable host, Cary Carlson, plays a good variety between singers, and it's seldom so crowded that you can't get up on stage. The pool tables in this sprawling complex provide diversions between songs, as does the full bar menu.
