Comments (0) BEST FISHING HOLE (URBAN) - 1998

The nice thing about fishing in the city is that you don't need expensive lures, a deep-bottom sonar device, or an "as seen on TV" fish locator, since most of the lakes in town are stocked by the DNR. Although sunnies and crappies occur naturally in Lake of the Isles, Cedar Lake, and Lake Calhoun (and in aerator-assisted lakes such as Lake Powderhorn in Minneapolis and Lake Phalen in St. Paul), natural reproduction is inadequate when it comes to big fish such as muskies, walleye, and northern pike. All three of these fish are stocked in Lake Calhoun, from which they make their way to other lakes. But because the stocking begins in Calhoun, it's the best bet for any goal-oriented urban angler.
