Comments (0) BEST COMIC BOOK SHOP - 1998

Whether you are in search of a comic as a momentary escape or as a collector's item, DreamHaven has a title for every interest and sensibility. If your tastes run retro, they have racks of EC's weird and creepy tales and the altered reality of underground comics à la The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. Mayhem can be had with Todd McFarlane's phenom, Spawn, or you can learn the cost of violence with the 1982 EduComic I Saw It: The Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima, or with Art Spiegelman's haunting Holocaust allegory Maus. If those works are too heavy for your mood, there are the humorously misanthropic Milk and Cheese, or the social commentary of the pen-and-paper Simpsons. Best of all, the shop has a large rack of self-published comics from around the country. Ringing up the Minneapolis-published Most Likely to Succeed, the cashier noted that the artist used to work at DreamHaven. Egads! They don't only stock 'em, they breed 'em!
