BEST BUS STOP

Here's a sweet spot: a covered waiting bench across from the old Modern Café, backed by a full city lot lined in daylilies, daffodils, ribbon grass, barberries, peonies--really a three-season public garden that comes alive in spring and stays vibrant until the killing frost. Even after the snows start, a 10-foot totem of colorful tiles, a two-seat arbor, and a backdrop of pines turn this urban oasis into a winter wonderland. The northbound 5 swings by before dawn every day and runs the circuit past midnight. Just the other afternoon we spotted a few daytrippers get off the bus, take a break in the back woods, and catch the next ride by.
