Best Jazz Artist

Javier Santiago

Javier Santiago first made his mark in the Twin Cities as a teen piano prodigy; then jazz titan Dave Brubeck hand-picked him for a special program that exposed the pianist to a broader world of notable national musicians. Several of these new acquaintances guest on Santiago’s 2018 breakthrough, Phoenix, an album that demonstrates his mastery of jazz styles and idioms, but also incorporates Santiago’s own electronic beats, revealing the young pianist as a bridge between past and future.
