In the #MeToo era, it’s nice to see a prominent media figure lose his on-air gig for a good reason. The best one: He fell in love. In January, Minnesota Public Radio host Tom Weber announced he’d started dating Rep. Peggy Flanagan (DFL-St. Louis Park), a second-term representative and a candidate for lieutenant governor. In disclosing his relationship, Weber sacrificed his role as host of a popular weekday morning show. (He is still employed by the station, and has been reassigned to cover non-political topics.) Within their respective fields of local media and politics, Weber is among the most authentically likable personalities, and Flanagan is among the only—witness her singing “Purple Rain” on the House floor after Prince’s death. It’s maybe the first time people have said, “They deserve each other,” and meant that as a compliment.
