We take our State Fair cues from Fleetwood Mac: “You can go your own way.” But we do encourage you to beeline—pun very much intended—to the Agriculture, Horticulture, Honey, and Bee Culture Building. So many scrumptious fair foods can be oleaginous (and good grief, it’s so hot out in the late summer), but here, you can refresh with a honey stick or a specialty beer, and spend less than two bucks on a frozen apple cider popsicle. Slightly more robust in stature than a typical Fla-Vor-Ice freezer pop, they go down just as quick. They’re sweet, tart, and oh-so local, and you’ll feel the restorative, cooling power of them apples as you wander onward, back out into the cheese-drenched, greasy world.
