Best TV Station

TPT

Basic economics have a way of crushing any aspirations for good, local TV. The cost of production leaves little beyond car accident coverage and sports telecasts. But TPT, the Twin Cities’ PBS affiliate, does its best to bring cerebral nourishment to a largely vacuous cable lineup. With public affairs shows like Almanac, reflective TV like Hands-On History, and arts series like Minnesota Original, it’s the only station that regularly pushes itself to adhere to something more than the weary nightly formula of volume hairspray and prefab smiles. And we’re thankful for it.
