Grow Food by Appetite for Change
Five years ago, the local rap group Y.N.RichKids rocked the Minneapolis hip-hop world with the instant classic “Hot Cheetos and Takis,” a jubilant salute to the simple love of snacking. Last fall, Appetite for Change, a north Minneapolis health food advocacy group, came up with an equally addictive callback song. In “Grow Food,” kids freestyled about getting that “fake food up out of my hood,” “poppin’ bottles of that water,” and “passing your physical.” Beats & Rhymes, a youth recording program, produced a delectably colorful rager of a video to accompany the tune. People worldwide were enchanted and enthralled. It’s pure organic joy.
