As President Donald Trump prepares to gut federal arts/cultural funding, let’s remember the amazing things such funds can produce. Take The Lowertown Line, for example. Minnesota’s answer to Austin City Limits, the TPT program highlights live performances from standout Twin Cities music acts, including indie-folkers Communist Daughter, grunge-punks Bruise Violet, rap favorite P.O.S, and many more in 2016. Launched in 2012, Lowertown Line wears this Best Of crown, in part, due to its being the only major music TV show in town. But the smartly booked, expertly produced, free-to-attend series deserves praise, as does the Legacy Amendment, the 2008 voter-approved measure that helps makes it possible. Here’s hoping Lowertown Line keeps chugging along for decades to come.
