“Where the hell my phone? / Where the hell my phone? / Where the hell my, where the hell my phone? / Huh, how I’m supposed to get home?” So asks world-conquering, Minnesota-launched musician Lizzo over and over again on “Phone,” single No. 2 from her major-label debut, Coconut Oil. Over thumping, minimalist bass, we hear the real-life Melissa Jefferson urgently rapping about a totes #relatable millennial conundrum: losing one’s phone! Throw in a sexy chorus, and by God we’ve got ourselves an ear-wormy track of the highest order. Lizzo’s monotone question/chorus will be lodged in your head for days, whether or not you care where her phone is. FWIW: In a City Pages ’sclusie, Lizzo revealed she lost her phone at Market Bar-B-Que in Minneapolis. Sweet, tangy closure!
