Best Restaurant, St. Paul
Three of the Twin Cities’ finest restaurants recently shuttered in rapid-fire succession: La Belle Vie, Vincent, Brasserie Zentral — boom, boom, boom. Casual reigns supreme, and your good clothes are getting dusty. So where to go when your parents are celebrating 50 years, or when you simply want to feel like you’re somebody special doing something special? The Lexington. The remodel of this St. Paul institution was some of the biggest (and most drawn-out) local restaurant news in 2016. But the long-lost Lex is finally re-opened, and it’s as elegant as ever. There’s just the right amount of dark wood, low light, servers in fitted black-and-white attire. The devil is in the details here, with formal touches that we haven’t seen much of in a while. Welcome back, coat check, welcome back, heavy-bottomed lowball glasses, welcome back, big, sturdy menu. There’s nothing flimsy here. Everything is built for the ages, and built especially to welcome you on your special day.
