If the recent spate of bar openings reveals anything about our collective psyche, it’s that we’re desperate for diversion. Uptown’s new arcade bar Up-Down is packed to the brim every weekend; the whole town is gaga for the wild and whimsical Can Can Wonderland in St. Paul; national chain Punch Bowl Social has opened a location in St. Louis Park; and, lest we forget, Betty Danger’s Country Club is still a hotspot for mini-golf and its Ferris wheel bar. Even former steakhouse Libertine was recently given an adult-games makeover. And there’s yet another drink ’n’ play establishment on the way: TILT, a pinball and hot dog bar in south Minneapolis, is slated for a spring opening. When you’re tired of talking politics, pick up a cocktail and a skeeball and get some of that sweet, sweet distraction.
