In past years, the Best Beer category has been populated with styles that burst onto your palate and demand to be noticed: overpowering IPAs, silken stouts. Castle Danger’s Castle Cream Ale is neither of those things. Equal parts humble and brilliant, it’s a true beer drinker’s beer. Unfortunately, this creamy, sweet canoe brew has been overlooked by urbanites and marred by unimpressed Untappd reviews. But don’t believe the haters: This Two Harbors flagship is a crisp, golden throwback that refreshes and marvels. It’s also the first beer to take this category from outside the Twin Cities. And for those who don’t think the original is challenging enough, Castle Cream Ale comes in a saucy blood orange variety.
