Poised to be passed onto a third generation, the family-owned shop has been hurling steaks onto cafeteria trays for over 40 years. The Hatzistamoulos clan is so well suited to the trade that at least one of them has declared he wants a “hearse to carry me out of here.” Matriarch Dimitria still works at the restaurant daily, and though her sons have been sworn to secrecy when it comes to her age, the math says she can’t be a moment under 80. All told, the family’s combined experience easily calculates into the centuries. If you want a cigar bar, a single-malt scotch selection, or a $200 check, you’ll have to seek steak elsewhere. If you want the opposite of pretense, put a 20 in your wallet and head to the steakhouse that has been trying to tell you it’s the best all along.
