Best Place to Cross-Country Ski
Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve
Some of the most challenging and scenic ski trails in the state lie just south of the Twin Cities, where Murphy-Hanrehan sprawls in all its woodsy glory. Nine miles of groomed cross-country paths wind through deep forest, making a perfect physical activity for athletes and nature lovers alike. (Much of the wilderness is untouched, and an attentive birdwatcher might catch sight of an elusive woodland songbird.) Hilly terrain makes this a trail for more experienced skiers — the 10K loop is, as one regular attests, “not for the faint of heart” — but there’s also an off-leash dog park, snowshoeing, and hot cocoa for a more relaxed family outing.
