No, Hair and Nails isn’t actually a salon. The unassuming south Minneapolis storefront gallery hit the local art scene last fall, courtesy of visual artist Ryan Fontaine and dancer/choreographer Kristin Van Loon. So far, they’ve had a string of offbeat, contemporary art shows. Lindsay Rhyner’s “PRV’s” was especially great. The exhibition featured gorgeously intricate hanging textile pieces with dreamy fish and exotic forests, a creepy installation of body parts and mirrors, and elaborately designed punk vests sporting glittery reptiles, references to vintage video games, and epic floral scenes. Rhyner’s mastery of craft fuels her riotous vision; as a textile-based artist she often explores thrift stores and alleys for materials.
