The 19 Bar, established in 1952, is a Loring Park dive with a humble, blink-and-you-miss-it exterior that leads into spacious seating, a game room replete with lovingly kept pool tables under stained-glass lamps, and a massive deck out back. A favorite landing spot for Pride Fest goers, it's haunted daily by salt-of-the-earth neighborhood guys. You never have to fight with the 1990s soundtrack for a good conversation. The crowd leans on the chill, mature side. The bar is cash only. Generous pitchers of beer are cheap and the pizza is cheesy. For a bunker atmosphere any time of the day or night, the eternal twilight of the 19 Bar is an oasis away from the constant noise of Nicollet.
