The southwestern suburbs were in desperate need of a good record shop, and they certainly got that and then some when Mill City Sound opened its doors in late 2014. The shop is owned and operated by Rob Sheely, who has been an avid record collector since his teens, and that love shines through in the expert curation found in the stacks. Not only can you find the hottest new releases and gorgeously packaged vinyl box sets in ample supply on Mill City's shelves, but the affordable used bins are filled with an eclectic mix that will suit the tastes of any music fan. The shop is situated in an old pharmacy and hardware store on Mainstreet, which adds to the neighborhood charm of Mill City. The fact that there isn't another record shop like it for miles around is also part of its appeal, drawing music fans from all over the Twin Cities who make special pilgrimages to the store for whatever style of music they are craving. Sheely is continuously acquiring new collections from sellers, replenishing his already impressive stacks with classic gems as well as the best new LPs around.
