Trotter's Cafe has been a fixture in St. Paul's Merriam Park neighborhood for 27 years, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a place to gather. From the well-worn floors to the counter service, there's nothing pretentious about the place. Nor are there any airs about the food, which includes all the breakfast basics plus a lunch and dinner menu heavy on soups, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. Dishes are made with care; stocks for the soups, salad dressings, and whole grain breads are prepared from scratch in-house. The restaurant was ahead of the curve in using regional and organic ingredients, and a colorful chalkboard lists the local products used on the menu. From donating to food shelves to sponsoring local music nights and monthly art exhibits, Trotter's is part of the fabric of the community.
