Sweet Martha, the former elementary school teacher who hit it big in the baking game, understood this ironclad truth: We want our chocolate chip cookies hot, fresh, and by the bucketful. We're talking four dozen perfectly browned discs of butter, sugar, and chocolate for a cool $16. Like sherpas crossing the Himalayas with pouches full of dried yak meat, each August hordes of Minnesotans bravely cross the expanse of the State Fair with their cookie buckets. What else would sustain us between the cheese curd stand and the Corn Roast? What else can we take home as a souvenir of our journey and continue to happily munch on for weeks to come? It just isn't the Minnesota State Fair until we've seen someone inhale 10 cookies in order to shut the lid on a Sweet Martha's cookie pail. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
