For years this St. Louis Park brewery was slapped with the underrated tag, until it was no longer true. Steel Toe still doesn't have the boot print many of its peers do, but it's widely hailed as top of its class. Brewer and founder Jason Schoneman has stuck to his small-by-design mantra, though not as a rarifying, price-jacking marketing schtick. In the land of 10,000 IPAs, Steel Toe's citrus-bursting Size 7 is arguably the best and goes for workingman prices at $13 a growler. Rather than churn out subpar brews for new product's sake, Schoneman ensures that everything in his lineup hits the mark, including the Great American Beer Festival-winning Wee Heavy and session IPA Size 4.
