Halfway between a Brooklyn barcade and a boarded-up Detroit VFW, Mortimer's has long sat in the shadow of more notorious Uptown dives like Liquor Lyle's, CC Club, and the Red Dragon. Maybe it has something to do with its perpetually sticky floors or the fact that it's a cash-only bar. But fans know that everything about Mortimer's is endearingly low-budget. The cheap fake dart boards. The row of charmless, mass-market pinball machines. The cop-dark tinted windows. It makes you wanna gulp down the Grain Belt and $2 shots 'til the poorly lit room spins.
