Dark Horse is big, welcoming, and bright, and whatever its name might suggest, its success is not wholly unexpected. This Lowertown newbie is the sister restaurant to the most excellent Muddy Waters across the river. Like its sibling, Dark Horse aims to accommodate almost everyone, with a sizeable beer menu, but also one of the most comprehensive whiskey selections in town. And it's open almost all the time, 11 a.m to 2 a.m., with a menu sprawling enough to suit any craving at any time of day. Baba ghanouj, Chinese steamed buns, salt and pepper wings, and Turkish fig balls — that's just the appetizer list. Most important are the oh-so-pro barmen who run things like the bosses they are. They'll treat you to a twice-a-day happy hour, where cans of beer of beer go for $2.75, vino is but $3, and $5 tacos provide the base.
