Best Concert Venue
Following a harrowing ceiling collapse in August during a performance by Theory of a Deadman, First Avenue had to shutter its doors for a few weeks, quickly relocate as many shows as it could, and do some necessary remodeling to bring the venerable old bus station back up to code. And in handling the difficult situation so professionally and efficiently — with minimal injuries, little fuss, and an organized plan in place — the jewel of the Twin Cities rock 'n' roll scene proved once again why it is one of the best clubs in the world. The changes are slight and mostly cosmetic, with the recent renovation having raised the ceiling up a few feet. With recent upgrades to the lighting rigs, the sound system, and now the ceiling itself, First Avenue seems poised to be the proud musical focal point of the Twin Cities for plenty more years to come.
