City Pages catches some shit for ignoring the Twin Cities metal scene. Chief among our egregious oversights is False, the bludgeoning, doomsday-soundtracking metal band out of Minneapolis. The group's vocalist, known simply as Rachel, sounds like a rabid wolf choking on blood, as hellstorm guitars and relentlessly driving beats swirl and smash with fierce abandon during the band's 10-minute-plus songs. Guitarist Jimmy Claypool brings subtle hints of punk and hardcore to the blaring mix, which makes sense considering his role in former Twin Cities faves In Defence. Dropped last year via Oshkosh, Wisconsin, label Gilead Media, False's debut full-length, Untitled, earned the No. 21 spot on Pitchfork's year-end list of best metal releases. Consider this our formal apology for sleeping on False.
