For a quick escape from the Twin Cities, one of your best bets is to head up to Duluth. It has all the scenery and nature you could hope for, with camping nearby and spectacular views of the lake throughout the city. There's also plenty of arts, culture, food, and breweries to enjoy. If you're driving, you can make a quick pit stop at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed gas station in Cloquet. Otherwise, it's a cheap bus ride from the Twin Cities. Or just take the Skyline shuttle, which departs from Duluth and Minneapolis numerous times a day. For the adventurous, be sure to bring your bathing suit during the summer months and jump off what's left of Uncle Harvey's Mausoleum, a.k.a. the Cribs. Stroll along Canal Park and take in the lake air. Be sure to stop by Fitger's Brewhouse for the best root beer on the planet (take a growler home with you), and grab a dog at the Original Coney Island.
