The Day By Day Cafe is many things. For cars zooming down West Seventh it's a curiosity. You can't miss its bright purple facade, nor the kaleidoscopic murals and plastic figurines as you walk inside this quirky, booth-filled restaurant (which has a lovely patio during warmer months). For locals, Day By Day is a reliable breakfast haunt, a place to keep a standing date for coffee and pancakes. One glance at the extensive menu and it's clear how many regulars have already left their mark (try Dave's Special or Linda's Omelet). But for people recovering from addiction, Day By Day is a particularly welcome place. Owner Greg Ekborn opened the alcohol-free restaurant as a safe place for addicts to work, choosing its gentle name as a show of support. The philosophy could apply to any of us, really, who see the wisdom in taking it one day at a time.
