While the business landscape of Uptown has changed drastically over the years, one independent retailer has stayed the same since the '90s. Magers & Quinn has granted indie cred to a part of town that has struggled to stay cool in recent years. We can certainly imagine the area without some major chains, but it's hard to picture any other business in the Hennepin storefront at 3038. Like any good bookstore, M&Q stays well stocked, with special attention to its arts and design sections. The packed bookshelves create a cozy privacy, making it a great place to explore after a dinner date or while killing time before an Uptown Theatre show. The space also hosts some of the best literary events around town, including talks from Twin Cities bloggers, as well as readings from both local and nationally touring authors.
