It's hard to find good barbecue in Minnesota. But buying a Big Green Egg and smoking a pork butt overnight is too time-consuming, and hoofing it to Lockhart, Texas, for a pound of fatty brisket isn't exactly convenient, either. Fortunately, there is another option: Head up Highway 169 North until it seems to vanish, then look for Champlin's Q-Fanatic on your right-hand side. Q-Fanatic's meat is tremendous, and its sides aren't far behind. The pulled pork, ribs, and chicken are moist and succulent, and the brisket is as good as that at many barbecue joints located farther south. Their baked beans are rich and smoky, and their macaroni and cheese has addictive properties not easily explained by looking at a list of its ingredients. They make several of their own barbecue sauces, but the meat is so good you can't be blamed if you forget to reach for them.
