There was a gasp, a cry, a collective shudder from the neighborhood when 128 Cafe was sold by its previous owners. What would become of that amazing Caesar salad? The ribs, dear god, what would become of those mahogany slabs of pork goodness? Not only have the ribs remained, but the menu has undergone such a fabulous facelift, you'll be happy to revisit this St. Paul classic. The dining room is brighter, but still cozy. The dishes are much more modern, like a magical terrine and mussels in bacon and beer broth. This new fun approach to fresh fare is encapsulated in the house-made hot sauce "twang." It's zesty, sassy, and with just enough vinegar kick to clear the nasal passages. As much as our hearts may cling to old favorites, this new incarnation of 128 Cafe is the way of the future.
