Best Restaurant When Someone Else Is Paying (2013)

La Belle Vie

Everyone should get to experience Tim McKee's exquisite La Belle Vie at least once, but as you can imagine, a night of silver service and dry-aged beef doesn't come cheap. This is a place where you shouldn't let time or money or anything else distract you from what's sure to be a memorable meal, and the best way to do that is to let someone else pick up the check. So when your guilt-ridden ex or rich aunt comes to town, make a reservation and go for one of La Belle Vie's tasting menus, available in five, eight, or 13 courses. The mid-level menu is $85 a person, but includes the best of the best: poached lobster, pata negra (the ham equivalent of wagyu beef), a beautiful cheese course, a cleansing sorbet interlude, and an extravagant dessert. So what if it's a one-night fantasy? You'll have no regrets, and presumably no debts, the next day — just a full stomach and a food happy place you can always retreat to in your mind.
