Christiana Clark's turn as Oya in The Red and the Brown Water was certainly enough to earn her this nod. Physically, the tall and athletic performer fit the role perfectly, and she continued to dig deeper into the character even as Oya's entire world disintegrated around her. But tough drama isn't all Clark can play. She brought great comic timing to her role as the rough and ready Gasparina in Ten Thousand Things' Il Campiello. Clark's skills played perfectly with the broad comedy, though her character still had the rough edges and emotional thorns that make performances stick in the mind long after the show's end. No matter the space we've seen Clark act in, from the black box at the Guthrie to the Southern to the community centers and prisons used by Ten Thousand Things, her performances have always left an impression.
