Best Winter Sport You've Never Tried

Skijoring

Minnesota winters can be tough on dogs, who can feel just as cooped up indoors as their owners. Maybe that's why Minnesota is a major hub of a growing dog-lovers' sport: skijoring. The basics of the sport involve strapping a dog into a harness and letting it run along a ski trail pulling its owner behind it. Essentially, your dog takes you for a ski. But the sport isn't as easy as it looks—mostly because dogs don't instantly know the rules of the game. To ensure that your pooch doesn't run circles around you and knock you off your skis, take a free lesson from the Midwest Skijorers Club. The group will teach you to teach your dog. It also sponsors events and keeps a list of skijor-friendly trails on its website.
