Come mid-January, surviving the prolonged Minnesota winters can seem a daunting task. We need certain things to help us through. Our reputation as a state of hardy Norwegians impervious to cold helps. Whiskey helps. And so does chili—one of the few foods that tastes better the colder the wind chill gets. But good chili is hard to come by in Minnesota. Too often we venture out for a bowl of spicy goodness only to be met with a bland dish of tomato-flavored water and partially cooked kidney beans. Thank God for the Loon Café. The Loon serves five types of chili, each unique and delicious in its own way. The five options cover the chili spectrum, each offering varying ingredients and levels of spiciness. The Loon is sure to satisfy even the pickiest chili connoisseur—or at the very least make those frigid winter days more bearable.
