Comedy isn't usually considered a spectator sport, but it is at this longtime improv institution. Except that in this game, everybody wins. A typical show consists of two competing comedy teams who vie for laughs with clever musical numbers, film noir scenes, rap battles, and more, all made up on the spot based on suggestions from the audience. True, the sports part is mostly a gimmick, but it keeps things exciting. The Calhoun Square theater has been operating for over 20 years and employs some of the Twin Cities' funniest and quickest-witted comedians. Feel free to bring the family, because the show is not only pee-your-pants funny, it's also squeaky clean. Every audience member gets an equal chance to participate, and there's a different show every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. And unlike tickets to a lot of professional sports these days, the $12 cover won't cost you a bundle. Let the games begin!
